New Openbox problems

The last week updates of Openbox up to version 3.5.2-5 can make some problems.
It will install ‘openbox-gnome-session’ package as its depends and whole basic GNOME3 environment as well 🙂

If you’d like to put everything back to the prevoius stage, remove extra packages from the system:
apt-get remove nautilus openbox-gnome-session gdm3 gnome-bluetooth gnome-control-center gnome-control-center-data gnome-desktop3-data gnome-menus gnome-online-accounts gnome-user-guide systemd
and:
apt-get autoremove
apt-get clean

It happens on SparkyLinux LXDE, Ultra, Razor-Qt and GameOver.
All of them use Openbox as the default window manager.

SparkyLinux 3.0.1 Ultra update

This is an update of SparkyLinux 3.0.1 Ultra Edition ready for download.
The last system upgrade from Debian “testing” repositories caused an error of “marchobmenu”, which is pre-installed as default with Openbox desktop.
The problematic package of the situation was “python-xdg” – its update from version 0.19-5 to 0.25-3 resulted losing compatibility with the “marchobmenu” (which is not updated for the last three years).

The solution is: downgrade the “python-xdg” package from Debian stable “Wheezy” repository and block it before updating.

The second option might be to replace the “marchobmenu” by the standard Debian menu.
See how to do that: Marchobmenu bug

New iso images of Sparky 3.0.1 Ultra provides (still) “marchobmenu”.

Marchobmenu bug

The marchobmenu doesn’t want to work in Sparky 3.0 with different locales then English.
It happend between packages updating from RC to the final version.
In this moment I suggest to change the marchobmenu into Debian menu.
Edit file “/home/you/.config/openbox/menu.xml” and remove the line:
<menu label="Applications" id="mom-applications" execute="/usr/lib/marchobmenu/mom-daemon.py show">
and put a new one instead of the old one:
<menu id="/Debian">
Then restart Openbox.
