The marchobmenu doesn’t want to work in Sparky 3.0 with different locales then English. It happend between packages updating from RC to the final version. In this moment I suggest to change the marchobmenu into Debian menu. It seems that volumeicon doesn’t want to cooperate well with alsamixer. To put sound back run GNOME-Alsamixer from menu. 1. Mark at least first 3 sound options to mute theme. 2. Unmark all of them. 3. Check the sound now.
