Draco Desktop

There is a new desktop available for Sparkers: Draco

What is Draco?

Draco is a simple and lightweight desktop environment. While small still features XDG integration, freedesktop services and integration, power and storage management, desktop, panels, multi-monitor support and much more. Draco does not include any user applications.

Installation:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install draco-desktop

The package is built and tested on Sparky 5/Debian Buster 64 and 32 bit only.

Make sure this is the first build of Draco on Sparky so let me know if you find any problem, please.

Lumina Desktop moved to Sparky repos

Lumina Desktop has been moved to Sparky repos.

The latest version of Lumina Desktop 1.1.0 patch1 is available straight from Sparky repos.
I decided to build it myself and put it to our repos.
The Lumina Desktop is available as a single package, with a full source code as well.

Upgrade should be done via a terminal emulator, due to removing some older Lumina related packages:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install lumina-desktop

If any problem, remove all old Lumina related packages, before installing Sparky’s deb packages.

A fresh installation on an existing Sparky/Debian host can be made in any way (APT, Synaptic, APTus, Sparky MinimalGUI/CLI iso image).

‘sparky-backup-desktop’ and ‘sparky-desktop’ packages have been upgraded to provide right installation from Sparky repos instead of a 3rd party repos as it was doing before.

The Lumina Desktop Environment is available for Sparkers now.

The Lumina Desktop Environment is a lightweight system interface designed for use on any Unix-like operating system. Lumina is based on using plugins, which allows the entire interface to be arranged by each individual user as desired. A system wide default layout is also included, and is configurable by the system administrator.

The Lumina desktop can be installed via 2 different ways.

1. Sparky APTus

Upgrade 3 packages to the latest versions:
– sparky-aptus 0.3.x
– sparky-desktop 201600811
– sparky-desktop-data 20160811
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install sparky-aptus sparky-desktop sparky-desktop-data

Then run APTus from the system’s Menu and choose Lumina.

2. Fresh Sparky installation

Download the latest Sparky MinimalGUI or MinimalCLI 4.3/4.4-dev iso image, run it and upgrade 3 packages to the latest versions:
– sparky-backup-core 20160811
– sparky-backup-desktop 20160811
– sparky-desktop-data 20160811
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install sparky-backup-core sparky-backup-desktop sparky-desktop-data

Then run Sparky Advanced Installer from the system’s Menu or the command line:
sudo sparkylinux-installer

Sparky Advanced Installer

It also lets you install a web browser of your choice.

After the installation process is completed, reboot your system and choose “Lumina” instead of “Default session” or “Fluxbox” (installed as default with Lumina) on the login window.
