Lumina Desktop

The Lumina Desktop Environment is available for Sparkers now.

The Lumina Desktop Environment is a lightweight system interface designed for use on any Unix-like operating system. Lumina is based on using plugins, which allows the entire interface to be arranged by each individual user as desired. A system wide default layout is also included, and is configurable by the system administrator.

The Lumina desktop can be installed via 2 different ways.

1. Sparky APTus

Upgrade 3 packages to the latest versions:
– sparky-aptus 0.3.x
– sparky-desktop 201600811
– sparky-desktop-data 20160811
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install sparky-aptus sparky-desktop sparky-desktop-data

Then run APTus from the system’s Menu and choose Lumina.

2. Fresh Sparky installation

Download the latest Sparky MinimalGUI or MinimalCLI 4.3/4.4-dev iso image, run it and upgrade 3 packages to the latest versions:
– sparky-backup-core 20160811
– sparky-backup-desktop 20160811
– sparky-desktop-data 20160811
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install sparky-backup-core sparky-backup-desktop sparky-desktop-data

Then run Sparky Advanced Installer from the system’s Menu or the command line:
sudo sparkylinux-installer

It also lets you install a web browser of your choice.

After the installation process is completed, reboot your system and choose “Lumina” instead of “Default session” or “Fluxbox” (installed as default with Lumina) on the login window.
