There is a new application available for Sparkers: Shortwave

What is Shortwave?

Shortwave is an internet radio player that provides access to a station database with over 25,000 stations.

Features:
– Create your own library where you can add your favorite stations
– Easily search and discover new radio stations
– Automatic recognition of songs, with the possibility to save them individually
– Responsive application layout, compatible for small and large screens
– Play audio on supported network devices (e.g. Google Chromecasts)
– Seamless integration into the GNOME desktop environment

Installation (Sparky 6 amd64 & i686):
sudo apt update
sudo apt install shortwave

Warring!
This is Shortwave version 1.1.1, the last one which reqiures GTK+3; The latest version 2.0.x requires GTK+4, which is not available in Debian Sid or testing repos yet.

RadioStation

There is a new application available for Sparkers: RadioStation

What is RadioStation?

RadioStation is a fork off RadioTray-Lite, a lightweight clone of the original RadioTray online radio streaming player rewritten in C++.

Online radio streaming player:
– Runs on a Linux system tray.
– Has minimum interface possible.
– Plays most media formats (it uses gstreamer).
– Supports PLS, M3U, ASX, RAM, XSPF playlists.

Installation (Debian/Sparky stable & testing):

sudo apt update
sudo apt install radiostation

or via APTus-> AudioPlayers-> RadioStation.

Changes between the latest RadioTray-Lite 0.2.18 and RadioStation 0.2.19:
– updated up to present libs versions
– added new genres and stations
– renamed to the new one

Radiostart interview with pavroo

Hi the best community in the World!

Carlo, our community member and Sparky tools interpreter from Italy, has organized an interview with me (pavroo) in Italian radio station Radiostart: www.radiostart.it

It is a short interview about me, Sparky, its future and a few other, Linux related cases.

QMPlay2

There is a new app available in Sparky repos: QMPlay2.

If you are looking for a lightweight media player that can also help you listen to online radio stations and download videos from the Internet, you should try QMPlay2.
It is a simple application, designed with a fully customizable interface, supports numerous video and audio formats, can play online audio streams and enables you to save clips from YouTube.

It can play all formats supported by FFmpeg, libmodplug (including J2B and SFX). It also supports Audio CD, raw files, Rayman 2 music and chiptunes. It contains YouTube and Prostopleer browser. The application is created by Błażej Szczygieł.
