Sparky 2020.08 Special Editions

Special editions of Sparky 2020.08 GameOver, Multimedia & Rescue released.
It is based on the Debian testing “Bullseye”.

Changes:

Sparky 2020.05 Special Editions

Special editions of Sparky 2020.05 GameOver, Multimedia & Rescue released.
It is based on the Debian testing “Bullseye”.

Changes:
• upgrade from Debian testing repos as of May 11, 2020
• Linux kernel 5.6.7 (5.6.12 & 5.7-rc5 in Sparky unstable repos)
• Calamares 3.2.23
• added additional support of Sparky installation on UEFI machines with Secure Boot: the live system should be launched with Secure Boot off as before; but after installation the Secure Boot can be turned on; both installers: Calamares and Sparky’s Advanced provides support of such installation
• disabled package list updating, during installing Sparky via Calamares; even you install Sparky with active Internet connection, the Debian or Sparky server can be temporary off, so it could stop the installation
• added new packages to all iso images: ‘pulseaudio-module-bluetooth’ and ‘fuse3’ insead of ‘fuse’; thanks to Richard
• replaced ‘ktsuss’ by ‘sparky-su’ which is used by ‘sparky-aptus-upgrade-checker’ link
• Multimedia edition – removed packages: idjc, radiotray, camorama, hydrogen, phatch, ffado-mixer-qt4, flowblade, gscreenshot
• Rescue edition – removed packages: redobackup, gscreenshot; edded packages: xfce4-screenshooter

Xdman

There is a new tool available for Sparkers: Xdman.

What is Xdman?

Sparky 2020.02 Special Editions

Special editions of Sparky 2020.02 “Po Tolo” of the (semi-)rolling line: GameOver, Multimedia & Rescue have been released. It is based on the testing branch of Debian “Bullseye”.

GameOver Edition features a very large number of preinstalled games, useful tools and scripts. It’s targeted to gamers.

Multimedia Edition features a large set of tools for creating and editing graphics, audio, video and HTML pages.

The live system of Rescue Edition contains a large set of tools for scanning and fixing files, partitions and operating systems installed on hard drives.

Changes:
• system upgraded from Debian testing repos as of February 16, 2020
• Calamares 3.2.18 + kpmcore 3.3.0
• Firefox 73.0
• LibreOffice 6.4.1-rc1
• Linux kernel 5.4.13 as default (5.5.4 & 5.6-rc2 in Sparky unstable repos)
• GCC 10 compiler is installed, alongside to GCC 9 (default)
• vokoscreen replaced by vokoscreen-ng
• camorama replaced by cheese

System reinstallation is not required, install the new Sparky public key as follows:

MystiQ

There is a new tool available for Sparkers: MystiQ

What is MystiQ?

MystiQ is a GUI for FFmpeg, a powerful media converter. FFmpeg can read audio and video files in various formats and convert them into other formats. MystiQ features an intuitive graphical interface and a rich set of presets to help you convert media files within a few clicks. Advanced users can also adjust conversion parameters in detail.

Installation (Debian “Buster”/”Bullseye” / Sparky “Nibiru”/”Po Tolo” amd64 only):

There is a new tool available for Sparkers: Stremio

There are new live/install media of Sparky 2019.11 “Po Tolo” Special Editions available to download: GameOver, Multimedia & Rescue. The live system is based on the testing branch of Debian “Bullseye”.

GameOver Edition features a very large number of preinstalled games, useful tools and scripts. It’s targeted to gamers.

Multimedia Edition features a large set of tools for creating and editing graphics, audio, video and HTML pages.

The live system of Rescue Edition contains a large set of tools for scanning and fixing files, partitions and operating systems installed on hard drives.

Goals:
• system upgraded from Debian testing “Bullseye” repos as of November 10, 2019
• Calamares installer 3.2.16 + kpmcore 4
• Linux kernel 5.2.17 as default (5.3.10 & 5.4-rc7 in Sparky unstable repos)
• obmenu-generator removed from Rescue edition (due to Perl updated up to 5.30 and libgtk2-perl removed); it has been replaced by sparky-obmenu-rescue
• added Sid repos back (not active) – use it on your own risk
• Yad updated up to 5.0, but it is available from Sparky unstable repos now

No reinstallation is required if you have Sparky 2019.xx (of the line 6) installed, simply make full system upgrade.

New rolling iso images can be downloaded from the download/rolling page.

Known issues (encryption mode only):
• I performed a few tests with different partition combinations with the Calamares installer on an encrypted device – it works if I don’t use swap partition (automated partitioning on virtual machine tested only)

The live system of Rescue Edition contains a large set of tools for scanning and fixing files, partitions and operating systems installed on hard drives.
