Sparky news 2017/11/30

Sparky monthly report of the November 2017:
– keep building missing packages for armhf arch
– re-built some sparky tools to be compatible with armhf arch
– enlightenment updated up to version 0.22.1 and efl up to 1.20.6, so they are available now for i386, amd64 & armhf archs
– lumina-desktop updated up to version 1.4.0-p1 and is available now for i386, amd64 & armhf
– Sparky 4.7 “Tyche” of the stable line has been released
– Sparky 5-dev20171120 with disk ecryption via the Calamares installer has been released
– Sparky 4-dev20171127 for RaspberryPi has been released
– the latest Linux kernel updated up to version 4.14.3

Having much, and much work to do around Sparky, I consider to cut down (only one less by now) the next coming live/install media of Sparky 5.2.

I also consider to remove dde repository and all the packages – the desktop doesn’t work on Buster as it should, so there is no reason and no enough time to keep it there any longer.

Sometimes the less means more.

Thank’s a lot for your support!

Just I would like to say: big thank to all of you for your support and answer to our call.

We have collected the whole sum needed to pay for the VPS and a little more – all together 1730 PLN – thank you very much.

The biggest thank we send to Mr. Daniel Ch. from USA for the biggest support this year.

A little much money then we need and already have, can be spent for buying required equipment for RRi, and will be used to pay next mount bills for the internet, the power, etc, etc.

So thank’s again you are with us the next year.

Halfway (2017)

We are in the middle of a way to collect money to our server.

For the moment we have collected 570 PLN and still need 630 more to pay for the server.

We want to already thank all of you, specially thanks go to our community member ‘gom1’ for his RaspberryPi.
So we have a RaspberryPi now – but we just need to buy a power adapter + HDMI/VGA adapter for about 70 PLN.

In total, we still need 700 PLN all together (165 Euros about).

We hope to collect the rest amount together – we are one big open-source family, and as we know, the family should stick together.

See how you can support us

A present collection progress bar minus the cost of buying a raspberry appears in the right panel of our site.

Payment day coming (2017)

Donate Like a year ago, and ago, Sparky needs YOUR help now!

As you probably know, SparkyLinux is a non-profit project so does not earn money.
And probably some of you know that we have to pay bills for hosting server (vps), domains, the power (electricity), broadband (internet connection), etc., etc., from our personal, home budget.

The time to pay for our server coming quickly again so help us sending donation now!

This year we would like to buy a mini computer Raspberry Pi as well, which will be used for testing new images.
The point is to add support to one board’s machines like RPi 3 soon.
An image can be created in chrooted/virtual environment, but has to be tested on a real machine.

All in one, this year we need 1200 PLN for the VPS and 250 PLN for the equipment (all together 1450 PLN = 340 Euros about) until November 9, 2017.

We also have asked for donations our Polish users already at Our virtual server hosts a few web pages, all Linux related:, and

So please donate now to keep Sparky alive.
Any donation will be very helpful.
Visit the donation page to find how to send out money.

Sparky news 2017/05/29

Not much published in May, but changes happen under the hood:
– the biggest changes are around Sparky packages – I built many source packages of Sparky tools, and they landed to our repos already. Still some packs missing, but keep building when I can
– APTus upgraded up to 0.3.11, which features new option of removing supported desktops
– new line of Linux Kernel 4.11.x started, the latest one 4.11.3 is available via sparky’s unstable repository
– built and uploaded the last RC iso images of Sparky 4.6-RC based on upcoming Debian stable “Stretch”; with Calamares as a default system installer
– Sparky’s Linux kernel script, which I use for building custom kernels has been uploaded to our git repos; feel free to test and build your own custom ones
– new applications landed in Sparky repos: Dooble web browser and Spotify client

The big news is that Debian stable “Stretch” will be out in June 17, so Sparky 4.6 STB should be ready a few days after.

The HostingXtreme no longer provides support for Sparky – they was doing that for about 2 years – thank’s a lot.

There is a new mirror server provided by so it hosts Sparky iso images now – thank’s a lot.

– the Sparky Web Directory application has been changed to an other one. The new one is more flexible, features more useful options and is available in English and Polish. If you would like to promote your web site or blog, and support Sparky (two in one), simply add your web site to our Web Dir using a paid option
– the latest ‘sparky-aptus’ 0.3.9 provides a small fix of pt-pt and pt-br locale’s packages installation, thank’s to Daniel Campos Ramos.
