Enlightenment re-packaged

Last Updated on: 20th September 2023, 12:27 am

There is a big change in packaging Sparky’s Enlightenment debs.
The previous Enlightenment and all its elements were building and debianizing into a one package called e19/e20. I was doing that due to lack of time and… lack of time.

The last two days I spent building and testing new ‘E’ packages so they are ready in Sparky repos now. The building process is shorter now and the end users upgrading will be faster.

The ‘e20’ packages has been split into a few separated debs:
– efl
– evas-generic-loaders
– emotion-generic-players
– elementary
– python-efl
– enlightenment
– terminology

The new ‘E’ packages have been built using the latest tarballs instead of cloning the Enlightenment git repos as I was doing before.

The old packages of ‘e20’ will not be upgraded any more so I highly suggest to re-install Enlightenment as follow:

1. Leave the Enlightenment – log in to an other desktop or to a text console (F2+Ctrl+Alt).
2. Remove ‘e20’ and sparky’s theme packages:
sudo apt-get remove e20 blue-sky-sparky
3. Refresh package list and install Enlightenment:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install enlightenment

4. Install terminology as you wish:
sudo apt-get install terminology
5. Install Sparky Enlightenment theme back, if you wish:
sudo apt-get install blue-sky-sparky
6. If any problem, run:
sudo apt-get install -f
7. Then reboot:
sudo reboot
Make sure that Enlightenment from Sparky repos can be installed on Sparky and Debian testing/unstable compatible systems, but NOT on Debian stable.

To make fresh Enlightenment installation on the top of Debian testing/unstable or Sparky installation, do:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install enlightenment

  1. ‘LLo,

So, it’s a really good idea & that’s give me an occasion to retry ‘enlightened” Sparky…
    Well done 😉
