2. Remove the preferences file:
sudo rm -f /etc/apt/preferences

3. Update package list:
sudo apt-get update

4. Make full system upgrade:
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

5. If any problem, run:
sudo apt-get install -f
dpkg --configure -a

SparkyLinux 3.3.2-test3 is out

New testing iso image of SparkyLinux 3.3.2-test3 Base Edition is out.

This is the third and probably the last testing iso image before the final version of Sparky 3.4 will be published in June.

As usual, all packages have been upgraded from Debian “testing’ repository (14/May/2014).

New iso image of 3.3.2-test3 includes changes:
– Linux kernel has been upgraded up to version 3.14 from Debian “Sid” repos
– systemd is the default init system for Live system and after a hard drive installation
– the live installer has been upgraded
– Netsurt web browser has been replaced by Iceweasel
– Wicd network manager has been replaced by NetworkManager
– general clean up and minor fixes

We still ask for testing, specially the 64 bit version on machines with UEFI.

The testing iso images are placed in ‘development’ section on our download page.

MATE 1.6 -> 1.8

The latest Sparky MATE edition has been shipped with MATE 1.6.
If you’d like to upgrade it up to the newest version, simply follow a few steps.

Edit the repository list (as root):
su
nano /etc/apt/sources.list

Change the line below from:
deb http://repo.mate-desktop.org/debian jessie main
to:
deb http://repo.mate-desktop.org/archive/1.8/debian/ jessie main
Refresh the package list and upgrade all packages:
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade

In a case of verification question:
Install packages without verification? y/N
answer: ‘y’ (yes).

If you have any problem with upgrading, run:
apt-get install -f
It will install ‘systemd’ as default, so install one extra package:
apt-get install systemd-sysv
When you finish all operations restart your machine:
reboot
That’s all.
Your Sparky installation will be working on ‘systemd’ and MATE 1.8 from now.

Sparky 3.3.2-test2

The second testing iso image of SparkyLinux 3.3.2-test2 Base Edition is out.

The last week brought some solutions for bugs which have been found in the previous release of 3.3.2-test1.
We have found a solution after a set of tests we made in a virtual environment.

The present version of the installer got bugs fixing, which lets you install and run Sparky after installation on machines with EFI.

Testing installations have been made on Virtualbox with EFI mode enabled only.
Please, test it on your physical machine with EFI motherboard if you have it.

Report your results of installation and any suggestions on our forums.

The testing iso image is placed in ‘development’ section on our download page.

SparkyLinux 3.3.1 Base is out

An update of iso image of SparkyLinux 3.3.1 Base Edition is out.

The new installer had to be fixed, due to some, small changes between system base of Sparky and LMDE. The network connection did not work after installation the live system on a hard drive (Base Edition 3.3 only).

The old installer is free of the bug.

New live media of Sparky 3.3.1 Base features the installer bug fix only.
