There is a new application available for Sparkers: TagSpaces

What is TagSpaces?

TagSpaces is a free, non-locking, open source application for organizing and managing your local files with the help of tags. It features note taking and some to-do app capabilities. The application is available for Windows, Linux, Mac OS and Android. We provide a web clipper extension for Firefox and Chrome for easy collecting of online content as local files.

Main features:
– File and folder management – TagSpaces provides a convenient user interface for browsing, viewing and man files and folders.
– File tagging – The application supports two ways for tagging files. The default one embeds the tags directly in the name of the file, the other one uses a so called sidecar files for persisting the tags.
– Searching – The search functionality supports fussy functionality and can filter your locations for files and folders containing one or more tags
– Browser for local content – TagSpaces can be used just as browser for your local photos or navigation thought your local ebook library
– Media player – It supports playing for common audio and video files types and has integrated basic media player functionalities.
– No-Cloud: TagSpaces is running completely offline and serverless on your laptop, desktop or tablet and does not require an internet connection and any kind of online registration or service provider.
– Note Taking – you can create and edit notes in plain text, markdown and html file formats
– To-Do Management – with the help of the build in HTML editor you are able to create simple todo lists in every HTML file.
– Cross-platform: TagSpaces runs on Windows, Linux, Mac and Android
– Web Clipper for saving web pages and screenshots from your browsers is also available as extension for Firefox and Chrome.

uGet & KGet Integrators

There are two new tools available for Sparkers: uGet & KGet Integrators

What is uGet?

uGet is a lightweight yet powerful Open Source download manager for GNU/Linux developed with GTK+, which also comes packaged as a portable Windows app.

What is KGet?

KGet is a versatile and user-friendly download manager.

What is uGet Integrator?

Integrate uGet Download Manager with Google Chrome, Chromium, Opera, Vivaldi and Mozilla Firefox.

What is KGet Integrator?

KGet Integration captures the downloads to download them in KGet. This application is designed for Linux. This work was heavily based on the uGet Integrator. Most changes are the name, variables and icons. Plus the kget-integrator is smaller as KGet supports less features.

Lightdm Settings

There is a new tool available for Sparkers: Lightdm Settings.

What is Lightdm Settings?
It is a configuration tool for the LightDM display manager.

Installation:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install lightdm-settings

The Lightdm Settings is borrowed from the Linux Mint project:

The tool has been brought to Sparky by Szymon “lami07”.

 

HowTo: Install JDownloader and synchronize it with Iceweasel

 

JDownloader is an open-source download manager written in Java.
The last stable version 0.9.x has been released in 2011, but it’s possible to try a testing version of the manager 2.x.

JDownloader Installer package (deb) is in SparkyLinux repository now and can be installed via the package manager: APT, Synaptic or Sparky-APTus-Extra.

The script will download the installer from the project server and will install JDownloader in your operating system.

Settings

After the installation process is finished you can synchronize JDownloader with Iceweasel web browser via FlashGot plugin. Install the plugin via the web browser plugin manager if you haven’t installed it yet.

Go to the plugin settings if you have installed FlashGot already.
It’s possible that JDowloader will NOT be available to choose as the default download manager.

In a case like that, use “Add” button and type a name for the manager, such as:
“JDownloader-custom”

Now choose the executable file of JDownloader from:

/usr/bin/jdownloader

As the last step go to the “Media FlashGot” tab and choose download manager:
“Default (JDownloader-custom)”.

Now you can close the FlashGot settings window.
JDownloader has been installed and synchronized with the web browser.

Sparky Conky Manager 0.1.6

 

Sparky Conky Manger 0.1.6 is out.
It provides a few small bugs fixing and a new feature: Color changer.

It lets you change the default Conky color via just two clicks.
Colors available: black, blue, gray, green, red, white, yellow.

To get the new conky look you have to update it up to 0.1.6 and reload the Sparky’s Conky configuration file. Then choose your color.

If Conky will not start after choosing a new color, get back to the main menu and start it.
