No Desktop Environment
« on: July 19, 2019, 05:29:16 pm »
Made  a Live USB of sparkylinux-5.8-x86_64-lxqt.iso   Everything looks like it will boot correctly but after a while I end up with only a blinking cursor, if I tap the power button the screen bring up the shutdown process. I conclude the OS is working but the DE is not.

I used DD to create the the LIVE USB twice with different flash drives, both have the same issue. I changed BIOS to both Legacy and Ufie, no difference.
USB Live versions of UBUNTU and MXLinux both work correctly.

What could be unique about Sparky?

Have you verified ISO integrity with sha256? What are specs of your PC ?

Have you tried blacklisting Intel driver , or installing system using minicli ISO and removing Intel driver before starting desktop environment ?

No, I have not done either and don't know how to do that.  How does one blacklist a driver when you don't have access to the Desktop or the terminal?

Ok. Blacklisting i915 module at boot was not the brightest idea. Just checked that on my computer. Without i915 display server wouldn't even initialize. But playing with 5.8 lxqt in live mode, reminded me about failsafe mode, which will boot your system using vesa driver. And that's what you should do to diagnose the problem.
